REUNION - Each and every year, the executive committee of the Physics Alumni Association with the help of the department organizes reunion in the last Saturday of November (Sometimes it becomes first week of January). The event generally starts at 12 noon with the registration of the Ex-students. The inaugural session starts at 1pm with the lecture of the President of the Association, Principal, Vice-Principal and the Chief Guest. The business meeting starts at 4pm, cultural function at 6pm and the event ends with dinner after 8pm.

The different activities of the Physics Alumni Association are:

  • Prof. Bholanath Roy Memorial Prize (Cash prize of Rs. 500 and a Certificate) – This prize is given to the best student of third year physics honours for all-round performance.

  • Dr. Sasanka Ghosh Memorial Prize (Cash prize of Rs. 500 and a certificate) – This prize is given to the best student of the first year for all round performance.

  • Prof. Anil Sen Memorial Prize (Cash prize of Rs. 500 and a certificate) – This prize is given to the student who secures the highest marks (Part I + part II + part III taken together) in Physics Practical Examination conducted by the University of Calcutta.

  • Dr. Srikumar Roy Memorial Prize (a Gold Medal and a Certificate) – This prize is given to the third year physics honours student for his all-round performance in third year honours class.

  • Prof. Debi Prasad Ray Chaudhuri Memorial Prize (Book Prize) – This prize is given to the group of first year students securing the first position in the first year students’ seminar.

 

SCC physics alumni extended financial support in the renovation work of the first floor of the Duff Building by donating Rs. 50,000/. It also donated a fridge to the Department. This helps a lot to get ice for carrying out the e-t curve and platinum resistance experiment in the laboratory.

Dr. Anusree Roy (An alumnus) has donated Rs. 1,00,000/ to the fund of SCC Physics Alumni to purchase new good books required by the students each year and to develop infrastructure (almirah, bookself etc.) for keeping the books.

Each year SCC Physics Alumni organizes popular lectures on the recent front areas of physics.
